DENVER - Akili Kasim of Seattle U men's soccer has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending on September 9. The redshirt sophomore tallied two shutouts against nationally-ranked opponents as SU went 0-1-2 in a challenging week of soccer.

Kasim, a native of West Seattle, came up with a save in the second half of the Redhawks' 0-0 draw with second-ranked Indiana on Sunday. He was key in blanking the Hoosiers, who went scoreless for the first time in 2019.

On Monday, Kasim held then-12th-ranked Denver off the scoreboard in another 0-0 tie. He made a key stop in the first overtime period to preserve the tie at Championship Field.

On the season, Kasim has played 400 minutes and allowed just four goals. He has three clean sheets in his first four starts as a Redhawk.

Seattle U welcomes Portland and Washington for a pair of rivalry games at Championship Field this week.
