SEATTLE – Seattle University Athletics has bolstered its student-athlete support staff for the 2019-20 academic year, hiring three new staff members and promoting a fourth. Steven Reid, Krystal Clarke, and Eric Raustein have come on board at SU, while Katie Qualls has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services.
"I am grateful to Katie for agreeing to lead our academic support services, as well as for Steve, Krystal and Eric to believe in our vision and join our Student-Athlete Services team," said Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services Eric Guerra. "Raising our professional caliber, each one brings a terrific blend of experience, ability and a genuine care for the whole student."
Reid will take over as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services. He comes to SU from Fresno State University. Steve was a two-time men's basketball captain and SAAC chair at Oberlin College (Ohio). He earned his law degree from Ohio Northern University, where he was also a men's basketball assistant coach.
Clarke joins Qualls’s staff as the Assistant Director for Academic Services. She worked at the University Minnesota in 2019, serving as a Football Academic Intern/Learning Specialist. Prior to that, she was an Athletic Academic Support Assistant at the University of Akron, where she earned a Master of Science in Education. Clarke was a track and field athlete at Appalachian State University, graduating in 2016.
Rothstein has been hired as an Athletic Training on the Sports Medicine staff. He will work directly with women's basketball and rowing. Eric previously worked at the University of Utah.
Qualls is the new Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services. She spent the 2018-19 year as the Assistant Director of Academics and Student-Athlete Services at SU. Qualls worked previously at Washington State.
