SEATTLE — Seattle University volleyball announced its 2019 schedule with the forthcoming campaign highlighted by 12 home matches at the Redhawk Center located on the Seattle U campus including a invitational tournament during the second weekend in September.
Redhawks’ head coach James Finley officially begins his seventh season at the helm in Denver, Colo., as they open 2019 slate on Aug. 30 against San Francisco and Southern Miss as part of of the Denver Classic, before squaring off with host Denver the next day. Seattle U will then travel to Durham, N.H., for the Holly Young Invitational from Sept. 5-7, where it will face New Hampshire, Brown and Holy Cross, respectively.
Other Redhawk road or neutral site bouts include a trip to Montana State on Sept. 17, before taking part in the UC Riverside Classic, where they will face Penn and Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 20, before closing out the non-conference road swing with UC Riverside on Sept. 21.
Seattle U will open its home schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with a 5 p.m. start against in-state foe Eastern Washington, prior to hosting the Redhawk Invitational from Sept. 13-14. The round-robin style invitational will include a match with Gonzaga on day one and will conclude with day-two doubleheader against New Mexico and Oregon State.
Finley and his squad open their Western Athletic Conference schedule on Thursday, Sept. 26, when 2018 regular-season champion UT Rio Grande Valley visits the Redhawk Center at 6 p.m., before trekking to Edinburg, Texas, on Oct. 24 to close out the home-and-home series. The Redhawks also slated to battle conference champion New Mexico State at home on Sept. 28, before visiting Las Cruces, N.M., on Oct. 26.
The Redhawks book end the month of October with Grand Canyon as they visit Phoenix on Oct. 3, before welcoming the Lopes to the Redhawk Center for a Halloween showdown. Seattle U will take to the road on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19, visiting CSU Bakersfield and Utah Valley, respectively. The month will also feature a three-match home stand for the Redhawks as they play host to Chicago State (Oct. 10), Kansas City (Oct. 12) and California Baptist (Oct. 14).
Seattle U is then scheduled to cap 2019 with five games in November, beginning with CSU Bakersfield on Nov. 2, before concluding the home schedule on Nov. 14 against Utah Valley. The balance of dates for the Redhawks will have them on road as they are slated to visit Chicago State and Kansas City on Nov. 7 and Nov. 9, respectively, before their Nov. 17 regular season finale at California Baptist.
The Redhawks then hope to visit Orem, Utah, and qualify for their seventh consecutive WAC Tournament, this year hosted by Utah Valley from Nov. 28-30.
