SEATTLE – Continuing to round out the roster for 2019-20, Seattle University men's basketball Head Coach Jim Hayford has announced the addition of Jaren Nafarrete and Cade Alger to the Redhawk squad.

"Both of these young men are outstanding students, qualified for very high academic scholarships and we're pleased to have them join our program," said Hayford.

Nafarrete is a 5-7 point guard hailing from Foothills Christian High School in El Cajon, Calif. The team captain averaged 15 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals per game during his senior season for the Knights, culminating the year by being named to the CIF San Diego Section Second Team. Foothills Christian would finish the 2018-19 season with a 24-7 overall record, advancing to the second round of the CIF Division I State Championships.

Nafarrete also excelled in the classroom during his prep years, being named to the Principal's Honor Roll and to the CIF San Diego Section All-Academic Team.

"Jaren comes from one of the strongest high school programs in California where he was great team leader," Hayford said. "He brings a very unique and excellent set of skills to his position."

Alger is a 6-9 forward who prepped at Ripon Christian High School in Ripon, Calif., averaging 18 points, 12.3 rebounds and three assists per game as a senior. He was a three-sport athlete for the Knights, competing in basketball, football and volleyball.

In hoops, Alger was a two-time First Team All-Trans Valley League selection and earned the league's Most Outstanding Player honor once. He led the Knights to a CIF Sac-Joaquin D6 Section Championship in 2018 and in 2019, Ripon Christian played in both the section tournament and CIF State Tournament.

"Cade is a player with tremendous potential who will develop into a great player for us," Hayford said.

Additional accolades during his prep career include being named TVL's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, first team all-district, Front Row Preps First Team All-Region and First Team All-State D5.

As a quarterback for the Ripon Christian football team, Alger was named the team's Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year. He has also been a two-time TLV Most Valuable Player in volleyball.

Nafarrete and Alger join recent signees Dovy Pinskus, Trevon Allfrey and Jordan Dallas as members of the 2019-20 Redhawk recruiting class.
