PHOENIX, Ariz. – Seattle University baseball began a four-game road swing in Phoenix by facing 12th-ranked Arizona State Tuesday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The Redhawks would score first in the contest, but ultimately could not slow the Sun Devils' offense in a 12-5 defeat.
Jake Taylor and Chase Wells had two hits apiece to pace the Redhawks, who finished with nine hits on the night. Both knocked in a run in the top of the first, Taylor's on a bases-loaded walk and Wells' on a single through the left side.
Taylor would add a two-RBI single in the sixth that made it a 9-5 ball-game. But the Redhawks would not push another run across home plate. ASU improved to 28-7 on the year while Seattle U dropped to 8-26.
Seattle U starter Desmond Parisotto took the loss, his first decision of the season. The rookie struck out three while surrendering five hits for five runs in four innings. Seven total pitchers appeared on the bump for the Redhawks as the final four - Max Cuenca, Marvcus Guarin, Will Smith and Alden Huschle - combined to hold the Sun Devils scoreless over the final three frames.
The Redhawks return to Western Athletic Conference play Thursday through Saturday at Grand Canyon University. For the most up-to-date information on game day, be sure to follow the Redhawks on Twitter at @seattleubase.
