DENVER – Courtney Murphy of Seattle University women’s basketball has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week, for the period ending March 10. The freshman helped the Redhawks close the regular season with a pair of road wins this weekend.
Murphy put together two strong outings over the weekend, as SU garnered momentum entering the postseason. At CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night, Murphy posted 16 points and seven rebounds, making two three-pointers in 36 minutes of a 68-58 win over the `Runners.
She followed with a 10-point, nine-rebound performance in a 70-55 victory at GCU on Saturday. She committed no turnovers as the Redhawks claimed just four as a team, marking the fewest by a WAC team in a game this season.
On the season, Murphy ranks second in WAC play with her 46 made three-pointers and her 46.9 accuracy from deep. She scored in double figures in 14 of her 16 games this season.
SU heads to Las Vegas for the WAC Tournament this coming week. It will face UTRGV in the first round at The Orleans Arena on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
