BELLEVUE, Wash. – In a pitchers' duel at Bannerwood Park Thursday afternoon, visiting UT Arlington claimed a 3-1 win over Seattle U baseball to open a three-game series between the two teams.

The Mavericks (9-5) scored once in the second, then broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the third and that would end the scoring on the day.

Seattle U's Jake Prizina went eight strong innings on the mound, but a hit-by-pitch would come back to haunt him in the second inning as the batter would come around to score the game's first run. In the third, UTA's leadoff with reach on an error and eventually score for the go-ahead run. A ground-out RBI would give the Mavericks the final 3-1 spread.

Prizina finished with seven strikeouts to go along with one walk and four hits allowed.

The Redhawks' lone run wild come courtesy of back-to-back hits against UTA starter Cade Winquest. Kyle Sherick knocked a one-out double into right-center field and Kyler Murphy followed with a big RBI-single down the left-field line.

Winquest would not allow another run in his six complete frames. He would give way to relievers Michael Wong and Andrew Gross to close out the final three innings.

Sherick and Murphy each finished with a pair of hits while Jacob Prater, Chase Wells and Connor O'Brien had one apiece.

The Redhawks continue their series against UTA on Friday with a 4 p.m. first pitch at Bannerwood Park.
