NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. – After a very successful fall campaign, Seattle U men’s golf begins its spring season on Monday, Feb. 11 at the UC Irvine Invitational. Tee times start at 7:30 AM on both days in the two-day tournament, which is held this year at the Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
In this event, Redhawk fans can look forward to the return of superstar freshmen Nathan Cogswell and Jack Rahon, as well as junior Greg Gionfriddo, sophomore Gabe Spach, and junior Zack Overstreet. Their skills will be tested in a whole new way on the course, which has experienced heavy rainfall recently and will undoubtedly affect all teams’ play for better or for worse.
“The team is excited to kick off the year, and I feel good about our mindsets,” said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. “The golf course this week will be a great test – the cool, overcast conditions should actually be a benefit to our team.”
The 10-team field for the UC Irvine Invitational includes Cal Poly, Central Arkansas, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Grand Canyon, Santa Clara, Seattle U, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Washington State. Santa Clara boasts GolfStat.com’s 121-ranked golfer in Matthew McCarty. Live scoring will be posted here.
