EDGEWOOD, WASH. – In a close-fought battle, Seattle U men’s tennis dropped their rematch against Portland State, 6-1, at the Jupiter Tennis center on Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks fall to 0-3 on the season.

Junior Adrian Sanabria picked up Seattle U’s lone point with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Portland State’s Sam Roberts. Juniors Trenton Nield (6-4, 2-6, 7-10) and Arshak Ghazaryan (6-4, 6-7, 1-10) both took their opponents to three sets, but ultimately lost to award Portland State the points. Fellow junior Alex Chan (1-6, 1-6), sophomore Emilio Monroy (3-6, 1-6) and freshman Billy Givens-Jensen (1-6, 3-6) also competed in singles play for the Redhawks.

The doubles matchups included some close sets, but were swept in the end by the Vikings. Ghazaryan and Nield showed plenty of grit in a 5-7 loss, while Sanabria and Givens-Jensen took their opponents to a final score of 4-6. The duo of Monroy and Chan also fought well, but fell 1-6 to their opponents.

“We battled hard, but we’re still trying to find our form as a team,” said Assistant Coach Chris Borden. “Hopefully, results will be better next week.”

Seattle U’s next test comes on Friday, Feb. 8 against Puget Sound.
