SEATTLE - Expectations are high as the Seattle University track and field team begins its indoor season. Throughout the months of January and February, the talented squad will compete in four meets in their quest to land a coveted spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships, held this year on March 9 in Birmingham, Ala. The first of those meets, the UW Preview, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Dempsey Indoor facility at the University of Washington, with the first event kicking off at 9:00 AM. With the addition of 30 new freshmen and transfers to Seattle U’s 2019 roster, fans can surely be excited for the sheer amount of potential present in this year’s team, which hopes to build upon last year’s record-setting season.

The UW Preview features athletes from universities all over the west coast, as well as a number of high-level track clubs from throughout the country and even beyond. University competitors include Alaska Anchorage, Concordia (Ore.), Fresno State, George Fox, Gonzaga, Northwest U, Oregon, Oregon State, Portland, Puget Sound, Seattle U, Seattle Pacific, Simon Fraser, Stanford, Trinity Western, Washington, Washington State, Western Oregon and Western Washington.

Assistant Coach Chad Pharis, for one, feels ready to get started with competition. “We are very excited to get the indoor track season underway,” he said. “There are a lot of new faces on the team that will get to wear the red and black of Seattle U for the first time after a great fall of training. The returners are ready to build off of last year’s momentum and help lead their younger teammates into the first outdoor meet of the year. After the success from cross country season, there is a lot of excitement for this year and the depth of our roster.”
