SEATTLE – Seattle U men’s golf has signed Conor Kelly and William Koepke, who join an already strong team vying for a conference championship and a national tournament appearance. Kelly and Koepke will begin play for the Redhawks in the fall of 2019.
Kelly, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, was given All-Asia Team honors earlier this year. He has won numerous awards during his time at Bangkok Patana School, including the 2016 Coaches’ Choice honor and team MVP for 2017 and 2018. At the 2018 Junior Golf Hub Championship, held in Halifax, Mass., he shot a hole-in-one and an albatross on consecutive holes.
Head Coach Marc Chandonnet looks forward to Kelly’s arrival. “Conor is resilient on the course, and he’s also an excellent student,” he said. “From what I have heard about him, we can count on Conor always giving one hundred percent effort and commitment toward a championship culture here in Seattle.”
Koepke, who hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., spent four years on the Saguaro High School varsity golf team, qualifying for State every year. Recently, he won the 2018 Future Collegians World Tour Championship with rounds of 74, 65 and 66, totaling 11 under par. He is currently ranked sixth in the state of Arizona’s men’s golf class of 2019.
"We are very lucky to sign a player of Will’s caliber,” said Chandonnet. “He has a fantastic support system, and comes to SU ranked #115 in the nation’s 2019 class and #204 overall on the Junior Golf Scoreboard. He is a fantastic student and certainly fits nicely into our culture here at Seattle University. I am confident that he can have an impact right away both on and off the golf course, I am looking forward to supporting his journey over the next four years.”
The current men’s golf team begins their spring season on Feb. 11-12 at the UC Irvine Invitational.
