SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s swimming has announced the signing of four freshmen for its Class of 2019. Coach Craig Nisgor will bring in Will Corona, Emmett Moore, George Thiss, and Jaden Weiss as part of his new class for next season.
“We have had our biggest year in early commitments,” said Nisgor. “They are coming in from four different states and will add a tremendous amount to our roster. All of the men have been improving at a rapid rate and we are excited to have them join us next year. Both Will and Emmett have put up times this past year which would put them in scoring range at the WAC meet. Jaden and George have been dropping their times every time they swim and are right off scoring at conference. It’s an exciting group and during their visits, we realized what a good fit they would be for our team and the Seattle University community as well.”
Corona is from Georgetown, Texas. He swims at Georgetown High and for Nitro Swimming on the club circuit. He earned all-state recognition three times and has been an academic All-American in each of the last three years. Corona is ranked No. 551 nationally in the Class of 2019, according to CollegeSwimming.com.
Moore is a native of Anacortes, Wash. He holds the Washington 2A state record in the 100 butterfly (49.94) and was an all-state first team choice in 2018. He was chosen Skagit Valley Swimmer of the Year last season. Moore competed for Thunderbirds Aquatics Club as well. His mother, Kelly, played soccer at SU.
Thiss is from Greenwood, Minn. He swims at Minnetonka High and for Minnetonka Swim Club. Thiss was an all-conference selection in 2018 and serves as a team captain for Minnetonka High this year. For his club team, he holds the 400 IM record.
Weiss comes to SU from Madison, Wisc. At Madison West High, he was a 2018 all-state honorable mention pick. He helped Badger Aquatics Club win four straight state titles.
Seattle U won the 2018 Husky Invite collegiate team title and returns to action in January.
