SEATTLE – Seattle University women’s soccer will play at No. 1 Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. The Redhawks beat Kansas City, 1-0, to win the 2018 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament on Sunday at Utah Valley.

The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday at Stanford’s Cagan Stadium.

The Redhawks (10-7-3) blanked UMKC to win their fourth WAC Tournament title yesterday. Freshman goalkeeper Ariana Romero won Tournament MVP, while Isabelle Butterfield, Hannah Carrothers, and Jessie Ray were each chosen for the all-tournament team. SU is on an eight-game unbeaten streak and has a current shutout streak of 316:58 entering the NCAA Tournament.

Stanford is 17-0-2 this year. It won the Pac-12 regular-season championship. The Cardinal won the 2017 NCAA Championship, going 24-1 on its way to the title.

Seattle U has now won the WAC Tournament in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018. In 2014, the Redhawks won in overtime at Washington State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They remain the last WAC women’s soccer team to win an NCAA game.
