OREM, Utah – Seattle U volleyball was edged by Western Athletic Conference opponent Utah Valley Thursday night at Lockhart Arena in Orem, dropping a 25-22, 20-25, 24-26, 24-26 decision.
The Redhawks fall to 8-14 overall and 1-8 in WAC play while the Wolverines move to 12-11 overall and 4-6 in league action.
Four Redhawks tallied double-digit kills, including senior Mila Duarte, who put away a season-high 15 kills. Freshman Sofia Sanchez also finished with 15 kills while Rachel Stark added 13 and Julia Queiroz chipped in 10.
Shae Harris dished 50 assists, one shy of her season high. With 2,472 career assists, she senior continues to close in on becoming the third Seattle U player all-time to collect more than 2,500 assists.
The Redhawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first set and never trailed on their way to a 25-22 win. UVU would respond, taking a 25-20 win in set two and a 26-24 win in set three. Seattle U looked in control late in the fourth set, holding a 20-13 advantage and seeking to force a tie-breaking fifth set. But the home team would roll off a 6-0 run as part of a 13-4 swing down the stretch to clinch the set and match victory.
Seattle U's road swing continues on Saturday in Phoenix as the Redhawks face Grand Canyon at 3 p.m.
