MADERA, CALIF. – Freshman Nathan Cogswell continued his stellar freshman season and junior Greg Gionfriddo played some of the best golf in his career as Seattle U took fourth place overall in the 12-team Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State University at the par-72 Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera, Calif. Over Oct. 1-2, the Redhawks competed against players from Brigham Young, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Barbara, finishing with an astonishing team total of 11 under par.

Cogswell and Gionfriddo continued their stretch of close competition, with both taking top-10 finishes in the tournament.  At the end of the first day, Gionfriddo had played rounds of four-under 68 and one-under 71, while Cogswell posted scores of 72 and 68 to finish just one stroke behind his teammate.  They ended the second day four strokes apart, with Cogswell shooting an incredible six-under 66 to claim the fourth-place spot with a total of 10-under 206 and Gionfriddo shooting another 71, tying for sixth place and six-under 210.

Sophomore Gabe Spach once again attempted a comeback run on the second day, as he started the morning with two rounds of 75 under his belt but added a round of three-under 69 to finish third on the team with three-over 219. Freshman Jack Rahon (76-70-76) and junior Zack Overstreet (76-74-73) followed close behind with respective scores of six-over 222 and seven-over 223.

“I'm proud of the guys and their ability to remain focused through adversity,” Head Coach Marc Chandonnet said. “We are continuing to improve, and we know that we are capable of more.  It’s been great to work with this group, and we’re going to enjoy today’s experience before continuing to prepare for our moment.”

The next step toward that moment comes on Oct. 22-23, when the team heads to Little Rock, Ark., for the University of Arkansas Little Rock Invitational.
