KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (August 9) Nathan Aune of No. 22 Seattle University men’s soccer has been named to the 2018 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, the organization announced Thursday. Aune is one of 32 student-athletes chosen for the preseason list.

From the release, “The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year’s winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.”

Aune had a terrific junior season, earning United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American accolades. The Arlington, Washington, native was selected United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American, United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region, WAC Defensive Player of the Year, and All-WAC First Team.

The center back was vital in SU’s run to its third WAC Championship since 2013. He scored in the conference title game as the Redhawks beat San Jose State, 2-1, to clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament. SU followed with a 3-2 overtime win at Washington in the first round of NCAAs, marking the Redhawks’ third postseason win in the last five years.

Aune is one of two WAC players on the Hermann Watch List, joining Air Force’s Tucker Bone. The pool will be narrowed later in the season as semifinalists will be named. Eventually, three finalists will be chosen.

Prior to the 2016 campaign, David Olsen and Kyle Bjornethun were both named to the list. Olsen was a semifinalist during the 2015 season.

Seattle U has opened preseason camp and will host British Columbia in an exhibition game on Monday, Aug. 13, at Championship Field.
