SEATTLE – (August 6) Seattle University women’s basketball product Alexis Montgomery has signed her first professional contract with Hyvinkaa Ponteva in Finland’s Korisliiga. Montgomery graduated in June after a standout career with the Redhawks.

“I’m excited to continue playing the sport I love,” said Montgomery. “It has been a dream of mine for a long time and I look forward to playing with a great team and working to become a better player.”

"It is incredibly rewarding to see her achieving a goal she had her sights set on," said Coach Suzy Barcomb. "She has worked diligently this spring and summer and I am thrilled for Lex and look forward to seeing her continued growth, athletically and personally. We are so very proud of her."

In her senior season, Montgomery led SU to its first-ever WAC Championship and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance. The native of Beaverton, Ore., was chosen First Team All-WAC and became the first player in league history to win six WAC Player of the Week awards. Montgomery posted two triple-doubles, becoming the first player in WAC history with multiple triple-doubles.

HyPo went 19-8 last season, advancing to the semifinals in the Korisliiga playoffs. Its season begins in September.
