DENVER – (May 8) Seattle University’s Michelle Newblom has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week for April 30-May 6.

Newblom, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., broke a 42-year-old school record by running the 100m hurdles in 14.78 at the Ken Shannon Invitational last weekend. She won her section with that time, and finished in 5th place overall.

"We are very proud of Michelle being named athlete of the week," head coach Kelly Sullivan said. "She and assistant coach Chad Pharis deserve the conference recognition."

Newblom and the Redhawks will compete in the WAC Championship in Lawrence, Kan. Wednesday through Saturday.
