Alderson and Weeldreyer paired up on Saturday afternoon to defeat North Dakota’s top doubles team 6-4, helping the Redhawks get the 5-2 win at home on senior day.
Alderson, a senior, was being honored as the lone senior on the Redhawks squad during Saturday’s match, which makes the award extra special.
“Matt and Colton have really been playing well lately and this award is a great recognition of that,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “They have good team chemistry together and play with a lot of intensity. It’s a really nice honor for them to receive this award, especially for Matt coming from his senior day performance.”
This was the Redhawks’ third such award, but only the first one for a doubles team. Weeldreyer was named singles’ player of the week on Feb. 6, and Arshak Ghazaryan also earned the honor on Feb. 20.
The Redhawks will close out the regular season schedule on the road this weekend, as they face Chicago State on Saturday at 10 a.m., and UTRGV on Sunday at 7 a.m. Both games will be in Chicago.
