BELLEVUE, Wash. – (March 11) Seattle U baseball dropped the rubber match of a three-game series with UAlbany on Sunday at Bannerwood Park, falling 6-4 to the Great Danes.

The Redhawks (9-7) led 3-2 through six innings before surrendering a three-run seventh. The Great Danes (5-4) would not relinquish the lead and hang on for the two-run win.

Lucas Denney gave Seattle U a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. UAlbany would even the score in the fourth, and take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth. But the Redhawks would rally in the home half of the inning as Denney drove in a run and later scored on a Justin Mazzone RBI-single.

The Great Danes would reclaim the lead in the seventh, scoring three unearned runs off of reliever Austin Hansen, who was strapped with the loss.

The Redhawks rallied for one run in the seventh on a Jake Cosgrove sacrifice fly, but could not push any more runs across home plate. The Great Danes added an insurance run in the ninth for the final balance.

Starting pitcher Dawson Day struck out four, walked three and allowed just two hits for two runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings of a no decision. Hansen pitched 1.1 innings before giving way to Tyler Yeh midway through the seventh. Jarrod Billig closed out the final out of the ninth.

Mazzone finished with three hits to lead the Redhawks, who finished with an 11-4 hit advantage over UAlbany. Denney added two hits, two RBIs and two runs, while Cosgrove and Dalton Hurd also had two hits each.

The Redhawks head back out on the road on Tuesday, Mar. 13 for a single midweek game at Portland. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
