DAVIS, Calif. – (March 9) The Seattle University men’s tennis team opened the Golden State Invitational with a 7-0 loss to UC Davis on Friday afternoon.

Despite the score in today’s match, the Redhawks battled all match but just couldn’t close the deal.

“Today’s match was definitely closer than the overall score,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “We were right there on a lot of courts. It just came down to a handful of points.”

Seattle U lost the doubles points, but competed well in singles matches. Arshak Ghazaryan, Emilio Monroy and Jeremiah Kalmus all won a set in their matches, despite dropping the match in the end.

The 8-team tournament started today and will conclude on Sunday. With the loss, the Redhawks are slated to play Nevada tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a chance to play for a 5th place finish on Sunday if they win.

“We’re excited that we get to get back out tomorrow morning and compete outdoors again against another very good team,” Reeb added.
