DENVER – (March 5) Shianne Smith of Seattle University softball is the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week, for the period ending March 4. The freshman allowed just one earned run in five relief appearances at the Red Desert Classic over the weekend.

Smith posted a 0.54 ERA, picking up a win in Utah. She pitched 13 innings and allowed 11 hits. The native of Gresham, Ore., struck out nine hitters on the weekend.

Against Montana on March 2, Smith threw three shuout innings, only letting up one hit while striking out three. The next day, she followed with 4.1 innings in relief, locking down the Grizzlies again, as she gave up no earned runs.

Seattle U is 11-9 after a month of play. It hosts Toledo for the 2018 home opener tomorrow. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. at Logan Field.
