SEATTLE – (Feb. 9) The Seattle University men’s tennis team will play its first two home matches of the season this weekend at the Tennis Center at Sand Point. They host Linfield on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Idaho State on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The Redhawks started the spring season with four away matches and went 1-3 in that run. Now, they come home eager to use the home-court advantage to get on the win column.

Defending Western Athletic Conference male Tennis Player of the Week, Colton Weeldreyer, who’s only a freshman, is ready for the weekend and was kind enough to answer some questions for the fans and fellow students.

Where are you from? 

I am from Auburn, Washington 

What attracted you to tennis?  

I used to watch older kids play tennis in the summers, and one day I decided to start playing and fell in love with the game. 

What is your favorite thing about living in Seattle?

My favorite thing about living in Seattle is it's close to home, and you're never bored with all the fun things to do here. 

What kind of music would we find on your phone?

You would find Rap music and Country music on my phone for the most part.

What is your favorite type of food? 

My favorite type of food is Italian food, I am Italian and my mother and grandmother make amazing Italian dishes.

Who is your favorite athlete? 

My favorite athlete is Nick Kyrgios, he's a very flashy and an entertaining player on the court, he is very talented and comes up with some unreal shots.

What is your best memory as a Redhawk? 

My best memory as a Redhawk was winning my first match of the season in Portland. It was a good feeling to get that first win under my belt in the first match of the season.

What is your favorite tv show, and why? 

Hawaii 5-0 is my favorite TV show. I like the action and storylines, but it's also a pretty funny show as well. 

What is your hidden talent? 

One of my hidden talents is my memory. I can memorize an entire movie if I wanted.

What is your favorite, and least favorite subject in school? 

My favorite subject in school was English class, I like writing papers. My least favorite subject is math, never been a fan of math.

Other than tennis, what is your favorite sport to watch, and why?

Other than Tennis, I like to watch basketball. Basketball was always really fun to play growing up and I played competitively until I was 14. I always try to watch the LA Lakers because they're my favorite team. 

What is your favorite hobby? 

 A hobby of mine is teaching tennis to special needs kids on Saturday's. I started doing it two years ago and it's so much fun because you build friendships with the kids, and to watch them enjoying themselves playing tennis is a great feeling. 

What is one item you’d like to cross off your bucket list this year?

One thing I want to cross off my bucket list this year is I want to travel a lot more. I want to go so many different places around the world and try new things. 

If you were stuck on an island with one teammate, who would it be, and why?

If I was stuck on an island with one teammate I would choose to be there with Emilio because we are very good friends and get along well.
