DENVER – (Feb. 7) Redshirt junior pitcher Tarik Skubal has been named to the 2018 Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference Team and the Redhawks were selected to finish fourth in a vote of the league nine head coaches.

Skubal, a 6-3 lefty from Kingman, Ariz., returns to the Seattle U starting rotation after redshirting the 2017 season following Tommy John surgery. He was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American and Second Team All-WAC in 2015 after going 7-4 with a 3.24 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 17 total appearances. He followed that rookie performance by going 6-1 with a 2.11 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 42.2 innings as a sophomore. He earned WAC Pitcher of the Week once and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week once.

The Redhawks earned 46 points to come in fourth in the preseason coaches poll. Grand Canyon was selected as the preseason favorite, earning five first-place votes and 61 points. New Mexico State was selected second, earning two first-place votes and 54 points. Sac State, the 2017 WAC Tournament winner, was picked third with 51 points and one first-place vote.

Seattle U opens the 2018 season at home, hosting University of Pacific on a four-game series beginnign Friday, Feb. 16. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bannerwood Park.
