COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – (Jan. 12) Seattle University men’s swimming fell to Air Force, 162-58, and Incarnate Word, 136.5-90.5, Friday afternoon. Mitchell Crossen won the 200 freestyle in the meet at Schlessman Pool at Colorado College.

“We had some strong swims,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “It’s a bit different here with the higher altitude. Mitchell was strong in his races today.”

Crossen’s 1:44.30 time was good for gold in the 200 freestyle, narrowly beating Daniel Keith of Air Force. In the 100 freestyle, Crossen finished third, clocking a 46.70 Friday. Ian Keane turned in a dual-best 48.43 in the same race.

The 200 medley relay team of Morgan Montemayor, Ben Nussbaum, Jack Baldoni, and Greg Raper combined for a 1:34.65, finishing second. That foursome put together stellar finishes for SU the rest of the day.

Raper placed second in the 50 freestyle, as he swam a 21.48 Friday.

In the 100 butterfly, Baldoni posted a 50.11 to claim runner-up honors.

Montemayor earned silver in the 100 backstroke. The senior logged a 52.30 in the final.

Nussbaum was the fourth-place finisher in the 100 breaststroke. He swam a 59.55.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Crossen, Montemayor, Keane, and Julian Morales teamed up for a third-place showing.

The Redhawks meet AFA and UIW again tomorrow. The event is slated for an 10 a.m. Pacific start.

“We just need to keep on improving on the details and we’ll be in these races,” said Nisgor.
