ORLANDO – (Dec. 21) Alex Roldan of Seattle University men’s soccer has been invited to participate in the 2018 Major League Soccer (MLS) adidas Player Combine in Orlando.

"It's fantastic for Alex," said Coach Pete Fewing. "Alex has earned this opportunity and I'm really proud of him. This is the second year in a row that Seattle U has had a player invited to the combine, and just like Kyle Bjornethun (last year), Alex started every game of his career here. He understands what it takes and I'm really excited to see what he does in the future."

Roldan is one of 60 NCAA Division I players to be invited on the initial list. The combine will take place from Jan. 11-17 at Orlando City Stadium. Scouts from all 23 MLS clubs will be in attendance.

“I am truly blessed to be given this opportunity,” said Roldan. “It is a pleasure to compete alongside potential MLS prospects and in front of MLS coaches. Hopefully I am able to impress a few people while I'm there.”

Roldan, a native of Pico Rivera, Calif., earned All-WAC First Team honors in 2017. He was also chosen United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team. Roldan started all 23 games for SU this season. He scored six goals and recorded a team-high eight assists. Roldan finished second nationally in shots (101) and shots on goal (49) this season.

In his Redhawk career, Roldan started all 78 matches. He picked up a pair of All-WAC First Team selections. Roldan, who spent time at midfield and forward, logged 18 goals and 17 assists in his career.

Roldan is one of two WAC players to be invited to this year's combine, joining UNLV's Danny Musovski

Kyle Bjorntheun was invited to the MLS Combine last year. He was a fourth-round pick by Seattle Sounders in the MLS SuperDraft. Bjornethun ended up playing the 2017 season with Portland Timbers 2. Along with Bjornethun, David Olsen (Seattle), Miguel Gonzalez (Oklahoma), and Brady Ballew (Tulsa) are former Redhawks currently playing in the United Soccer League.
