SEATTLE – (Dec. 12) Hannah Carrothers and Stephanie Spiekerman of Seattle University women’s soccer have been named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region. The pair earned third team honors in the West region.

“I’m very proud and honored that these two were selected,” said Coach Julie Woodward. “It’s a great testament to who they are as people. They are both very well-rounded individuals and incredible student-athletes who are extremely committed to their work in the classroom.”

Carrothers, a junior defender, has a 3.6 cumulative grade point average at SU. The marketing major was an All-WAC Second Team choice, tallying five assists on the season. The native of Vancouver, British Columbia, started 16 games as the Redhawks advanced to their record fifth straight WAC Championship game.

Spiekerman is a cell and molecular biology major from Seattle. The senior was named All-WAC Second Team for the second time in her career, spending time on defense and in the midfield this year. She scored the game-winner against CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 20.

The pair were the lone WAC representatives on the all-region squads. In 2015, three Redhawks were picked for the scholar all-region squads-Kelly Beck, Kiana Kraft, and Julia Moravec.
