SEATTLE – (Nov. 13) Seattle University softball has signed four student-athletes to its Class of 2018. Grace Dudden, Kallahan Hunter, Mekenzie Madokoro, and Olivia Viggiano have signed on to become Redhawks.

“This class has speed, power, and great defense,” said Coach Geoff Hirai. “They are great leaders with outstanding work ethic. We expect this class to impact us right away.”

Dudden, a 6-0 catcher, is a native of Norco, Calif. She is a senior at Norco High and has played for Firecrackers Brashear in club, where she helped her team rank eighth in the nation this summer. At Norco, she helped her team go 33-1 in her junior season.

“Grace has great presence about her that you can’t teach,” said Hirai. “Her arm and power are off the charts and we are looking for her to impact us behind the plate and with her big bat."

Hunter is from Temecula, Calif. The 5-6 catcher plays at Temecula Valley High and The Next Level in club. She made varsity as a freshman at Temecula Valley.

“Kallahan is a well-rounded athlete that brings instant leadership to this program,” said Hirai. “Her maturity and work ethic will fit into our program well. We look for her to bring that leadership behind the plate.”

Madokoro was named to FLOW Softball's Top 100 and earned an invite to the On Deck Elite Camp. She played in the 2017 PGF U-18 Premier National Championships with her powerhouse club team, Firecrackers Lutterloh. Her team also won the 2017 So Cal's Finest U-18 TCS Schutt Cup and took third in the TCS U-18 OC Coastal Classic.

“Mekenzie is a triple-threat option from another highly-respected travel ball team,” said Hirai. “Her grittiness and work ethic will fit into our culture well. Mekenzie will compete to earn playing time right away.”

Viggiano, a 5-9 senior at Mission Viejo High, is a left-handed hitting outfielder. She has played for Corona Angels in club the last three years.

“Olivia plays for one of the best travel ball teams in the country,” said Hirai. “She brings a lot of competitiveness and experience with her. She is a triple-threat hitter with an exceptional arm and glove. We look for Olivia to impact us right away.”
