STOCKTON, Calif. - (Oct. 23) The Redhawks men's tennis program competed this past weekend in the ITA Regionals for a spot in the ITA Fall National Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Palm Desert, Calif.

Freshman Colton Weeldreyer defeated Washington's Jeremy Field in the round of 128 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Weeldreyer again went on to win in straight sets, this time in his round of 64 match-up with Fresno State's Mantas Bugailiskis, 7-5, 6-2. Weeldreyer fell in round of 32 to Cal's Dominic Barretto, 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Matt Alderson fought back to win his round of 128 match-up with UC Davis' Tommy Lam. Alderson fell behind after losing the first set 2-6. Alderson then rallied to win the second set 6-4 and capped off a nail-biting victory with a 7-6 (7) final set win. Alderson then fell to Washington's Jack Davis, 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 64.

Freshman Emilio Monroy also won his round of 128 match-up by defeating Santa Clara's Sabastian Mathieu, 7-5, 0-6, 7-6(5). Monroy lost his round of 64 match with Cal's Jacob Brumm, 6-1, 6-4.

The teams of Trenton Nield and Colton Weeldreyer, Arshak Ghazaryan and Emilio Monroy, both advanced to the round of 32 in the double event before exiting the tournament in the round of 16. 

"Our guys competed well this weekend and showed that they belong on the court with just about anyone," Assistant Coach Chris Borden said. "While there are still areas that we need to improve, I am happy with the intensity and overall performance of our players at this tournament."

Next up for Seattle U men's tennis is a trip to Spokane, Wash., to compete in the Bulldog Invitational on Oct. 27-29.
