SEATTLE – (Sept. 24) No. 18 Seattle University men’s soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 19 Washington Sunday night. The game was played in front a sellout crowd of 1,800 fans at Championship Field as SU's 21-game home win streak was snapped.

"In this game, when you get opportunities, you have to finish, and Washington did that," said Coach Pete Fewing. "I liked how we responded late, but we need to start the game like that."

Seattle U was unable to play its possession-based style in the first half, with neither side gaining much momentum offensively. UW held an 8-4 advantage in shots through 45 minutes, as Josh Adachi made a pair of saves, including a key stop in the final seconds of the frame to keep it scoreless.

In the second half, the visitors struck for a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute. A few minutes, they earned a corner kick. A diving header by Luke Hauswirth found the back of the net as UW went up, 2-0.

The Redhawks worked hard to rally, creating several late chances. Alex Roldan, Medo Youssef, and Tyler John each had opportunities, but UW kept SU off the board as time ran out.

With the defeat, Seattle U’s 21-game home streak was snapped. It last fell at Championship on Aug. 30, 2015.

"It was a great crowd," said Fewing. "A great night for college soccer."

SU continues its five-game home stand on Friday, Sept. 29, as CSU Bakersfield visits Championship Field. The contest marks the start of Western Athletic Conference play.
