WAC RELEASE

DENVER – (Sept. 11) Leahi Manthei of Seattle University women’s soccer has been chosen Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 10. The freshman scored a Division I program-record four goals in SU’s win at Idaho on Sept. 4.

With the Redhawks trailing, 2-0, at Idaho, Manthei scored her first collegiate goal in the first half. SU tied the match entering halftime and then Manthei exploded. The Gig Harbor, native scored three times in the second frame, lifting Seattle U to a 5-3 road victory. The win marked SU’s first-ever comeback from a two-goal deficit in the Division I era.

Manthei became just the fifth player to score four goals in a game this season and the second freshman. Her eight points tied a Division I single-game record at SU, matching Stephanie Verdoia’s eight-point showing in 2014. Manthei leads the WAC with 2.0 points per game in 2017.

Manthei joins Jessie Ray as back-to-back WAC Offensive Player of the Week honorees. The Redhawks host Santa Clara this afternoon at Championship Field.
