BOX SCORE VS BOWLING GREEN | BOX SCORE VS SAC STATE

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – (Sept. 9) Seattle University volleyball closed out play at the NKU Invitational in Highland Heights, Ky., with a 1-1 split in a pair of matches Saturday. The Redhawks began the day with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Bowling Green, then closed the day out with a 3-1 setback to Sacramento State.

The morning opener, starting at 10:00 a.m. local, 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time, saw Seattle U (2-7) mount a massive rally after dropping the first two sets, 28-26 and 25-15. The Redhawks never trailed in the third set, winning 25-18. Staving off elimination, they rallied from an early 4-0 deficit in the fourth set to win 25-18, then pulled away for a 15-10 win in the fifth.

Junior setter Shae Harris set a Seattle U Division I program record with 62 assists. The previous record was 61, set by Jacquie Brice in 2012. Sophomore outside hitter Katarina Marinkovic recorded a match-high 23 kills to go along with 11 digs for her second straight double-double. Freshman Anna Palmer, in her first career start, had 15 kills, while junior middle Maja Stojanovic had 13 kills and four blocks.

The Redhawks hit a season-best .306 for the match. Freshman libero Tijana Milojevic collected 27 digs and Harris added 12 for her first double-double of the season.

In the evening match against the hornets (7-5), Seattle U found itself in another 2-0 hole after falling 25-14 and 20-17. Seeking a deja vu performance from the morning, the Redhawks put down 23 kills on 42 swings and just three errors (.476 hitting percentage) to claim a 29-27 victory in the third set. But despite knotting the score 22-22 in the fourth set, three straight attack errors would send Sacramento State to victory with a 25-22 final.

Marinkovic finished the match with 21 kills, her third straight 20-plus output, on her way to earning All-Tournament honors. Harris finished with 45 assists and nine digs, while Milojevic had 23 digs.

The Redhawks remain in the state of Kentucky for their next match, traveling to Richmond, Ky., to face Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
