HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – (Sept. 8) Katarina Marinkovic came alive for a season-high 22 kills on a season-high hitting percentage, but the Seattle University volleyball team dropped a close match, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, to Northern Kentucky in the first match of the NKU Invitational.

Joining Marinkovic with double digit kills were Victoria Demmene with 12 and Maja Stojanovic with 10. Freshman Tijana Milojevic collected 18 digs while Marinkovic had 13 for her first double-double of the year.

The Norse (4-0) were paced by Haley Libs’ 24 kills and 19 digs. Laura Crawford added 15 kills and 18 digs while Shelby Olsen dished 51 assists.

Northern Kentucky built a 9-1 lead to open the match. The Redhawks (1-6) were never able to close the gap in the set, but turned the tide in the second set, battling from a 9-5 deficit to tie the score 10-10 with Demmene on serve. NKU called a timeout, but Seattle U continued its run, pulling ahead for a 13-10 advantage. The Redhawks led by as many as seven points and held off a late rally by the Norse to even the match at one set apiece.

The third set saw 13 tie scores and a pair of lead changes, but a service ace and two attack errors by the Redhawks handed the final three points to NKU for a 2-1 lead.

The Redhawks would lead early in the fourth set, but the Norse claimed the lead at 16-15 and back-to-back Libs kills closed out the match with a 25-21 score in the deciding set.

Seattle U continues play at the NKU Invite on Saturday, facing Bowling Green at 7:00 a.m. PT and Sacramento State at 2:00 p.m. PT.
