DuPONT, Wash. – (Sept. 8) Seattle University men's golf alums Patrick Sato and Kyle Cornett teamed for an 8-under 64 to earn medalist honors at U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifying held Sept. 6 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.
With the win, Sato and Cornett advance to compete in the 2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, to be held May 19-23, 2018, at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla.
"I'm really excited for these two guys," said SU Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "What a fun event and they've got the fire power and experience to compete at Jupiter Hills in 2018. It's so great to see all the successes our graduates are having."
The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
After nine holes, Sato and Cornett stood at 1-under par, well out of contention, but their round got kick-started when Sato made an eagle 3 on the par-5 10th. They teamed for a 7-under on the back nine, finishing at 8-under.
Sato and Cornett concluded their Redhawk careers this past spring, leading Seattle U to the 2017 Western Athletic Conference Championship and the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 1965. Cornett also won the 2017 Seattle Amateur.
