In his first year with the Redhawks, Tyler King helped coach the cross country and track teams to some impressive distance performances. Matthew Seidel was named to the All-WAC First Team in the fall, with Olivia Stein and Johanna Erickson landing spots on the All-WAC Second Team. In the spring, Seidel broke school records for the 3,000m and 5K races, while Eli Boudouris set the record for the 3,000m steeplechase, breaking that record again one week later. Stein landed herself at the top of Seattle U’s 10K records book by a huge margin, also winning bronze medals for the 3,000m and 5K at the Indoor WAC Championships. Both the men and the women won gold in the distance medley – Boudouris, Seidel, Keith Beasley and Lance Slichko raced for the men, while Erickson, Shannan Higgins, Siobhan Rubio, and Abby Wachter competed for the women. At the Outdoor WAC Championships, Stein took a gold medal in the 10K and a silver medal in the 5k, while Erickson won bronze for the 3,000m steeplechase.

King joins the Redhawks from Coupeville, Wash. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2016 where he raced both long distance track and cross country. King was a NCAA All-American in 2014, 10k NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Qualifier in 2016 and the team captain of the 2016 University of Washington cross country team that finished 8th in the NCAA.
