EDINBURG, Texas - (Apr. 15) Seattle University baseball closed out a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at UTRGV Saturday, dropping a 12-9 decision to the Vaqueros at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

Despite 16 hits for the game, the Redhawks (12-21-1, 4-8 WAC) found themselves in 6-1 hole heading into the final three frames. They would rally to score eight runs over the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but the Vaqueros (20-19, 4-8 WAC) tacked on more runs of their own to hold on.

Chase Wells and Jake Taylor had three hit each for the Redhawks. Austin Lively had two hits and two RBIs while Aaron Stroosma and Michael Ciancio each delivered solo home runs.

The Vaqueros finished with nine hits while starting pitcher Andrew Garcia picked up the win in 6.2 innings of work.

Lucas Chapman (1-1) took the loss for for Seattle U, giving up six hits and a walk for five earned runs in 3.2 innings. Nathan Bonck, Austin Hansen, Nick Hoefling and Alden Huschle all pitched in relief.

An eight-game road swing continues next week as the Redhawks travel to face Gonzaga and Washington State on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. They return to Bannerwood Park on Friday, Apr. 21 to begin a three-game WAC set against Sacramento State.
