SEATTLE - (Feb. 19) The Seattle U women's tennis team capped off the long weekend with a 4-3 victory over Whitman College at the Mercer Island Country Club Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks swept through doubles play but Whitman demonstrated some grit during singles play, winning three games of their own. Michelle Lui, Caroline Maltby, and Kailyn Skjonsby each earned two set victories.

Head coach Adam Reeb knew Whitman would provide a stiff challenge for his team.

"Whitman is a very good team and played well. We started a little slow but picked it up to get the crucial doubles point," said Reeb.

"Michelle, Caroline, and Kailyn played great to get three quick singles wins to clinch the match for us. Unfortunately we dropped the remaining singles matches but overall this was a great weekend for us.

We've seen how well we are capable playing as a team so now we need to have that standard every time out. Tremendous effort by the girls this weekend so now some well deserved couple of days off before we host Air Force on Friday night.

We also wanted to say a big thank you to Mercer Island Country Club and SU tennis alum and Director of Junior Tennis Jesse Walter for allowing us to play there today. It was a great atmosphere and a lot of fun."

The women return to action next Friday at the Tennis Center at Sand Point as they host Air Force for a 7:30 p.m. match.
