SEATTLE - (Jan 22) Despite impressive singles performances from freshman Caroline Maltby and junior Michelle Lui, the Seattle U women's tennis team fell to the visiting Montana State Bobcats, 5-2, at the Tennis Center at Sand Point.

Maltby defeated Wanda Holopainen in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. Similary, Michelle Lui proved to be in command of her singles match, posting a 6-2, 6-3 two-set victory over Montana State's Laura Middel.

The Redhawks were unable to find similar success in their doubles matches, which head coach Adam Reeb acknowledged afterwards is an area the team needs to improve in.

"Montana St. is a good team but we were right there with them," said Reeb. "The girls played very hard, but we just came up short.

Michelle Lui played a solid singles match and Caroline Maltby had an awesome performance from the second set on.

We've been working a lot on our doubles which is something we need to continue to get better at, and we've got to keep working on making adjustments in matches as needed. The girls work so hard and will put the work in so I know we'll get there."

Seattle U's next match is Saturday, Jan. 28 on the road against the University of Washington at 4:00 p.m.
