Shae Harris (Vancouver, B.C.) has been named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of November 15th – 21st).  Harris, a sophomore captain on the volleyball team, scored the match winning kill on Saturday, November 12th versus Grand Canyon University in the final home game of the season.  Harris, traditionally a setter, has shifted into a hitter position to contribute in a new way to her team’s success.  She has started 20 of the 26 matches she has played in this season.  Seattle U Volleyball continues their season this week at the WAC conference tournament hosted by New Mexico State University.

Off the field, Harris is seeking a degree in Marine & Conservation Biology. She has excelled in the classroom and currently holds over a 3.5 GPA. She has served as captain for both seasons she has played at Seattle U, which is extremely rare for a first year student.  Shae volunteered for the Athletics Department and the community for over 50 hours during her first year, including at the International Dinner, Seattle Expanding Your Horizons Conference, gardening at Volunteer Park and the Red Tie celebration.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition. Student-athletes must earn over a 3.0 GPA and be at least a second year student to be nominated for the award.
