SEATTLE (Nov. 14) - Seattle University women’s basketball plays at the University of San Francisco on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
SU fell, 68-64, to Idaho in the season-opener on Nov. 11. It made 12 three-pointers, including four apiece for Alexis Montgomery and Kaylee Best. It marks the most made treys by a Redhawk team since Jan. 3, 2010, when SU sank 15 threes against Portland.
On Friday, there were nine ties and nine lead changes in the back-and-forth contest. Seattle U pushed the defending Big Sky champion to the limit, outshooting one of the nation’s top three-point shooting units from last season. Montgomery, Best, and Claire Metoyer combined for 45 points in Coach Suzy Barcomb’s debut.
San Francisco defeated Sacramento State, 91-80, to open its regular season on Nov. 11. Michaela Rakova led the Dons with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Kalyn Simon notched 15 points, six assists, and six boards.
Last season, San Francisco won the West Coast Conference, advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Molly Goodenbour is the Dons’ new head coach. She was hired at Cal State East Bay this summer to replace Barcomb, but then moved on to USF this fall. Goodenbour previously coached at Cal State Dominguez Hills, winning 77 games in four seasons.
The programs have met twice before, with each side winning once.
