On the women’s side, Samantha Garrard (Issaquah, Wash.), Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas), Kailyn Skjonsby (Grapeview, Wash.), Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.), and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) were named while, on the men’s side, Gus Orlando (Sacramento, Calif.) and Brian Nguyen (Edmonds, Wash.) made the cut. Wurden and James receive the honor for the second straight year.
The women’s team was one of just three teams from the Western Athletic Conference to earn the team award, alongside New Mexico State and Texas-Pan American.
Both teams made significant strides in 2013-14, as the men recorded their highest win total since the rebirth of the program, while the women earned a momentous victory at Gonzaga early in the season. Wurden received the Individual Mission Award at the annual Seattle U Athletics Awards Show while Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). For a player to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, they must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
