After helping lead the team through their first Western Athletic Conference tournament, as the Redhawks served as tournament host, senior Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.) has been named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on This is the team’s second honor of the season as Jenny Hurst (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) was named on Feb. 25.

“Brianna works hard on the field and in the classroom,” said head coach Dan Powers.  “She has found her stride at SU and is going to make a positive impact in her community after she graduates.”

Guerrero started at shortstop in all three games in last weekend’s WAC Tournament, recording two hits, a run, and two doubles to give her a team-leading 14 doubles on the season.

In 2014, Guerrero earned 46 starts in 48 games played and finished fifth at the plate for Seattle U with a .258 average (39-for-151). She also recorded 16 runs, a team-high 14 doubles, three home runs, and 17 RBIs over the season. At starting shortstop, she earned one of the highest fielding percentages on the team (.950).

Academically, Guerrero also excels in the classroom, majoring in biology, and was named to the Dean’s List for winter quarter.

Seattle U finished the 2014 season at the WAC Tournament and look to build upon this year’s success throughout the offseason leading into the 2015 season.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
