W. Tennis Drops Final Two Spring Break Matches

Seattle University women’s tennis (3-18) earned the doubles point and came close to a victory in their second match of the day but would ultimately fall in both matches, 5-2, to Idaho State (3-9) and 4-3 to Southern Utah (6-7).

The Redhawks have one final regular season contest on Apr. 12 vs. Southern Utah in Spokane at 10 a.m. before late April's WAC Tournament. Stay tuned to for the latest information on the team leading up to and through the tournament.

Match 1: Idaho State 5, Seattle U 2

Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) gave the Redhawks the chance to win the point with a victory at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, but the Redhawks ultimately surrendered the doubles point as Idaho State came away with two wins in doubles play.

Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) earned a win at No. 1 singles over the Bengals’ Marian Tangarife while Lucas came away with a victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Madelyn Weltzin. ISU would, however, come back to win four of six singles matches and earn the 5-2 victory.

Match 2: Southern Utah 4, Seattle U 3


Seattle U earned the doubles point and was able to take two singles matches as Weissmann and Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas) earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The match, however, would come down to the No. 2 singles match, which lasted for near two and a half hours. Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) would ultimately fall to Southern Utah’s Veronika Rogova as the Thunderbirds earned the narrow victory.
