Seattle University men’s tennis lost the doubles point but came back to win four singles matches and take the victory, defeating University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 4-3. The Redhawks snapped a seven-game winning UMBC winning streak with the win.

“After losing the doubles point, the team fought back with a lot of heart,” said assistant coach Mark Hooper. “Zach Kosanke saved the match point in the second set to win the deciding match. You can never count these boys out, with how hard they work and how much they believe in themselves.”

UMBC won doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, winning the doubles point, despite a win at No. 2 doubles by Will Topp (Olympia, Wash.) and Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.), 8-5.

Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Topp took the SU lead, 2-1, with wins in the first two singles matches, before the Retrievers regained the lead, 3-2, with the next two singles wins.

Riley Newman (Whidbey Island, Wash.) would even the score, 3-3, at No. 5 singles and, coming down to the No. 3 singles match, Kosanke came away with the win.

The Redhawks head to Las Vegas next weekend for four matches vs. Mesa Community College, Southern Utah, Grand Canyon, and Idaho State.
