Senior Nick Bever (Seattle, Wash.) has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com after breaking a school record last weekend at the UW Invitational.
On his third attempt in the triple jump, Bever launched himself to a distance of 13.71 meters (44’ 11.75”), two-tenths of a meter further than the previous school record set three years ago. He is now fifth on the WAC performance list in the event with his performance Saturday. It was a half-meter further than his best effort just two weeks before in the UW Indoor Preview, and it was his collegiate best for either indoor or outdoor.
“I was happy that Bever got a school record jump this past weekend. Jumping is a very technical and mental event and he has been putting in good work, but not having it all come together on meet day. It’s fitting that he is receiving this honor because this is really the first, and important, step towards what he’s capable of achieving this year. I’m excited to see him gain momentum and build upon this,” Seattle U head track and field coach Trisha Steidl said.
In the classroom, Bever is majoring in accounting within the Albers School of Business and Economics with a solid 3.0 grade point average. He earned Academic All-WAC honors twice last year, once after the indoor track and field season and again after the outdoor track and field campaign.
The Seattle University track and field team will next compete at the Husky Classic back at Dempsey Indoor Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.
The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
