At the end of a busy first weekend of spring competition for Seattle University men’s tennis (1-3), the Redhawks earned two singles wins but it was not enough to overcome Gonzaga (1-0) as they fell, 5-2, to the Bulldogs.

Seattle U fell in all three doubles matches as Gonzaga earned the doubles point to start off the match. Riley Newman (Whidbey Island, Wash.) and Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) came the closest to a win at No. 3 doubles as they were defeated, 6-5, and fell, 7-4, in the tiebreaker.

Nick Kamisar and Jack Schoebel defeated Zach Kosanke (Bellevue, Wash.) and Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas) at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to take a 3-0 lead. Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Leahy then narrowed the deficit at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, 3-2, earning wins vs. Hayden Smith and Muzeen Ismath, respectively. However, in a pair of close matches, Newman and Will Topp (Olympia, Wash.) fell at No. 5 and No. 2 singles, respectively, as Gonzaga came away with the 5-2 win.

The team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 as they host George Fox University at the Amy Yee Tennis Center at 5 p.m.
