Seattle University head tennis coach Mark Frisby announces the signing of four student-athletes who will attend school and compete for the Redhawks as part of the class of 2018. Michelle Lui, Madison Maloney, Sari Kwee, and Matt Alderson will join the Seattle U men’s and women’s tennis teams starting with the 2014-15 season.

Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.)

Michelle Lui is a four-year varsity starter from Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bellevue, Wash. Primarily playing No. 1 singles for the Ravens, she is a three-year league, district, and state champion and has been named team MVP from 2010-13, going undefeated each season. She received the 2013 Scott Eden Sportsmanship Award and the 2012 National Championship Sportsmanship Award. Outside of tennis, she has been on the honor roll the past three years, is part of the International Students Club, and participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. She is interested in pursuing a career in medicine and business.

Madison Maloney (Idaho Falls, Idaho)

Madison Maloney is a three-year varsity letterwinner from Idaho Falls High School.   Competing in No. 1 singles for the Tigers, she won districts during her freshmen and sophomore seasons, compiling a 58-5 record over the two seasons.  She was named 2013 Player of the Year at IFHS and earned all-conference honors from 2008-12. Maloney also earned a letter in varsity volleyball as the starting libero as a sophomore. Outside of athletics, she is a member of the National Honor Society, French Club, and Spanish Club, and received the Phenomenal Physics and Novo Nordisk Donnelley awards. Maloney is interested in a career in occupational therapy.

Sari Kwee (Honolulu, Hawai’i)

A four-year varsity starter at Iolani High School, Sari Kwee primarily competes in No. 1 doubles. She has served as the varsity team captain since 2012 and was named First Team Interscholastic League of Hawaii (ILH) in 2011 and 2013 and Second Team in 2012. She helped lead the Raiders to a Carlsmith Ball/Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) State Tournament Championship in 2012 and to the playoffs in 2011 and 2013. The team also earned the ILH Championship in 2011 and 2013 and reached the playoffs in 2012. Kwee is a community service co-chair, President of the Storyteller’s Club, member of Team Service, member of the I-Club, and received the Headmaster’s Award. She is interested in pursuing a career in civil and environmental engineering.

Matt Alderson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.)

Matt Alderson is a three-year varsity starter from Bainbridge High School and plans to compete at the varsity level for the fourth straight season in spring 2014. Competing in No. 1 singles, he has a 58-10 record through three seasons with the Spartans and was named team captain for his senior season. He placed fifth in state doubles his freshman season, second during his sophomore and junior seasons, and earned the metro championship all three seasons. In 2012, he represented the Pacific Northwest at the National 18’s team championships.  He is a Club Interact volunteer and a National Honor Society member and is interested in pursuing a career in business and entrepreneurship.
