The Seattle University women’s tennis team completed play at the WSU Invitational on the campus of Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., their final tournament of the fall season. Doubles action was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but all matches were able to be completed on Saturday, completing the tournament.

In No. 1 doubles, Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.), competing alongside Washington State’s Dajana Ognjenovic defeated fellow Redhawks Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas)/Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.), 8-6.

James/Lambert also fell to Eastern Washington’s Malieva Hedberg/Chrissy Uriarte, 8-4, before defeating Eastern Washington’s Dani Young/Katrina Domingo by withdrawal.

Lucas/Ognjenovic fell to Idaho’s Vicky Lozano/Almudena Sanz, 8-3, before defeating Eastern Washington’s Hedberg/Uriarte, 8-7 (8-6).

Later in the day, James/Lambert were also defeated by Idaho’s Lozano/Sanz, 8-3, as well as by Washington State’s Liza Leenknecht/Elizaveta Luzina, 8-5. Ognjenovic/Lucas defeated EWU’s Young/Domingo by withdrawal but fell earlier in the day to Washington State’s Leenknecht/Luzina, 8-2.

In No. 2 doubles, Samantha Garrard (Issaquah, Wash.)/Dayna Bennett (Issaquah, Wash.) defeated Eastern Washington’s Brittany Ellingson/Moira Hedberg, 8-4, also defeating EWU’s Erin Blessing/Alexis Filliol by withdrawal, as well as fellow teammates Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.)/Kailyn Skjonsby (Grapeview, Wash.), 8-5. Garrard/Bennett also fell to Washington State’s Maria Biryukova/Olga Musilovich, 8-2, and Idaho’s Belen Barcenilla/Rita Bermudez.

Weissmann/Skjonsby defeated Blessing/Filliol of Eastern Washington by withdrawal, later falling to Idaho’s Barcenilla/Bermudez, 8-2, Washington State’s Biryukova/Musilovich, 8-3, and Ellingson/Hedberg by withdrawal.

Finishing the fall season this weekend, the Redhawks are set to open the spring season with a dual match vs. Air Force on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
