The Seattle University women’s tennis team began its Western Athletic Conference schedule with two neutral site matches Saturday, losing to Texas State, 7-0, and Louisiana Tech, 4-0, at the Spartans Tennis Complex on the campus of San Jose State University.

In Seattle U’s first match of the day, Texas State swept all three doubles sets and all six singles matches without losing a set. The duo of Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) was able to win five games at number two doubles before falling, 8-5, as did the number three doubles team of Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) and Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas).

Newman won the most games for Seattle U in her singles match in the number one position, taking seven games in a 6-3, 6-4 loss. Lucas and Wurden both lost by identical 6-3, 6-3 decisions.

The Redhawks came right back onto the court to face Louisiana Tech, with the Lady Techsters winning the doubles point by prevailing in all three positions with the same 8-3 score. Louisiana Tech won in straight sets at number one, number two, and number five singles to clinch the match, and the remaining singles contests were stopped due to darkness.

Seattle University (3-7, 0-2 WAC) will face New Mexico State at the Spartans Tennis Complex before continuing its Spring Break road trip in Las Vegas, Nev., March 25-26, and in San Marcos, Texas, March 28-29.
