The Seattle University women's tennis team played a well-fought match Saturday night, but the final score didn't show it as they fell 7-0 to in-state rival Eastern Washington at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash.

Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) lost a heartbreaker at No. 2 singles, a match that lasted over two and a half hours. She breezed through the first set 1-6, but opponent Chrissy Uriarte took the second one 6-0. The two fought for every point in the third and deciding set, forcing a set tiebreak. Lambert couldn't hold on for the tiebreaker, however, and lost 1-6, 6-0, 7-6(7-1).

Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) also fell in tough three-set match. At No. 5 singles, Lucas took the first set in a tiebreaker 6-7(7-5). Her opponent, Ryann Warner, won the second set 6-4, forcing a third-set super tiebreak. Lucas and Warner traded points throughout the tiebreak, extending it past the required seven points, but Warner put together two straight points at the end to win 6-7, 6-4, 1-0(11-9).

Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) also hung tough wither her opponent, Eastern Washington's Kelsey Knight, at No. 4 singles. Wurden pushed Knight to a tiebreak in the first set, which she ultimately lost 7-6(7-5). After winning three games in the second set, however, Wurden couldn't take anymore and lost 7-6, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) fell in straight 6-4 sets to the Eagles' Chelsea Patton, while Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) fell 6-2, 6-4 to Moira Hedberg in the first singles position.

Rounding out the lineup, Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas) squared off against EWU's Alexis Filliol, falling in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

The Redhawks started out the match falling in doubles play 2-1. At No. 2 doubles, Newman and Lucas breezed by the Eagles' Uriarte and Knight, while EWU's duo of Hedberg and Patton took down Weissmann and Lambert 8-3. At No. 3 doubles, the Redhawks' Wurden and James tried to rally from a 7-3 deficit but couldn't complete the comeback, losing 8-6.

The Redhawks' next match will be a Monday, March 11 showdown against North Dakota. That match, to be held at the Amy Yee Center in Seattle, Wash., is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
